An element of change for MAP

Momentary Art Project

The 3 Elements exhibition

Friday August 2nd is the date and New Brighton is the place for the launch of the latest art exhibition organised by the Momentary Art Project (MAP) in our new location.

Set up last year by seven Wirral residents who are passionate about art and New Brighton, MAP has already brought a range of art shows to the resort. The 3 Elements exhibition, which launches at 6pm on August 2nd and can be seen in the window of our new unit in Neptune’s Marine Point development (between Morrisons and Starbucks) until the end of the month, features the work of three talented local artists and offers a snapshot of the wide range of art being created in Wirral.

Mural artist Fred Biddulph is, amongst other things, a time-served sign-writer who spent more than 20 years as a college lecturer teaching decorating, special wall finishes, graining and marbling both in London and Merseyside.  Locally he has worked with pupils to create murals in several local schools.

Metal is the chosen medium for the second featured artist,Roy Lewis, who has been using worn engine and other mechanical parts in his work for more than 25 years.

“I have only in recent years realised that this was recycling,” commented Roy, “I was just using interesting found parts. I have, up to now, mainly made candle holders, clocks and sundials. Earlier this year, though, I was commissioned to make a bull’s head for display in a restaurant and after completing that I decided to make a stag’s head. So what’s next?”

Completing the trio is contemporary glass artist Angie McCormick, who has developed a unique technique withmolten glass that results in striking yet delicate works of artthat are sewn onto a mount board and framed. Acclaimed for her exhibition at London’s Brick Lane Gallery in 2012, Angie has been commissioned by local businesses, includingMerseytravel

Her work can be seen online at www.angiemccormick.co.uk and at the Williamson Art Gallery in Birkenhead, as well as at The 3 Elements exhibition.

PS for those who are new or don't know where we are, from the train station head down hill towards the sea, hang a right on the first big road, cross the crossing after the RNLI station towards Morrisons and there we are between the supermarket and Starbucks, The Light Cinema is just around the corner.
